Fans asked to Pink Out rinks this month to raise breast cancer awareness

The Plano East Hockey Association is doing their part to raise breast cancer awareness during the month of October.  Our players will be wearing bright pink hockey socks at all games in October, and we are asking all fans to wear pink to the games and "Pink Out" the rink!

Some statistics*:

  • 1 in 8 U.S. women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lifetime
  • Just under 30% of cancers in women are breast cancer
  • 232,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 62,570 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer.
  • A man's lifetime risk of breast cancer is 1 in 1000, with 2,360 new cases expected to be diagnosed in 2014.

* Statistics from breastcancer.org.  See the website for information on screening, diagnosis, and treatment options.

Some might remember that the JV Panthers wore their pink socks last season and they became a bit of a good luck charm.  The Pink Panthers went unbeaten in October and decided to keep the socks until they lost a game.  Their first loss did not come until January 5th!

So find your pink apparel and come out to the next game against Keller this Sunday, 10/12, 3:15pm, at DPSC Euless (Green rink).
